Area Statements target action for environment in Wales

National Resources Wales has produced a series of Area Statements covering seven separate parts of the country and farmers and landowners are being advised to get acquainted with them.

These statements have been prepared at the request of the Welsh Government to inform and guide rural and natural resource protection and development in Wales.

“The seven statements cover the whole of Wales including its Coastline and could be considered as a Local Development Plan for Nature,” said Eifion Bibby, land agent at Davis Meade Property Consultants which has offices in Colwyn Bay and Oswestry.

Each Area Statement outlines the key challenges facing that particular locality, what can be done to meet those challenges, and how we all can better manage natural resources for the benefit of future generations.

They are seen as evolving documents and NRW is keen for as many people to get involved in their development as possible.

They will be updated regularly and improved year-on-year as more people get involved, new evidence is given and ideas are put forward ideas to create opportunities.

The seven Area Statements are:

South East Wales Area Statement

South Central wales Area Statement

South West Area Statement

Mid wales Area Statement

North East Area Statement

North West Area Statement

Marine Area Statement (which covers the inshore waters of Wales extending out 12 nautical miles and making up 43 per cent of the Welsh territory).

Any farmer or landowner looking to the future and the growing importance of natural capital, new market opportunities and the likely shape of future rural support schemes should acquaint themselves with their local Area Statement. They will help to identify opportunities as well as giving early warning of constraints.

As a leading natural capital adviser in the rural economy, DMPC is well-placed to talk their clients through what their local Area Statement could mean for their business.
