Compulsory Purchase is a power that acquiring authorities have to purchase land to carry out a function which parliament has decided is in the public interest.  Such functions could include road, pipeline, utility and development schemes.

Objections can be made but must be within the specified timescale.  This could lead to a hearing or public enquiry.  Very often the authority are willing to negotiate so it is sensible to have an agent act on your behalf regarding negotiations.
