Farmers, land managers, and rural businesses across England are set to benefit from a substantial new round of Capital Grants in 2026, with £225 million allocated to support environmental improvements.
The scheme, which opens in July, forms a key part of the government’s ongoing commitment to sustainable land management and environmental recovery.
Funding will be organised into six groups:
-
Boundaries
-
trees and orchards
-
water quality
-
air quality
-
natural flood management
-
assessments
-
improvements
Funding limits will apply to most groups, including up to £25,000 for water, air, and flood management, and up to £35,000 for boundaries and tree-related work.
Applicants can include items from multiple groups in one application, but only one application per Single Business Identifier (SBI) is allowed.
Before applying, applicants should:
-
Submit any outstanding claims from previous agreements to release land parcels
-
Ensure their Rural Payments Agency details and land maps are accurate and up to date
-
Check they have sufficient funds to complete the work upfront, as payments are made after completion
-
Gather all necessary supporting evidence, including maps and financial documentation where required
Some items will require prior advice from Catchment Sensitive Farming advisers, and tenant farmers may need landlord consent depending on their tenancy length.
We will post an update when full guidance and the list of eligible items are published in May, ahead of applications opening in July.
